How does organ, eye and tissue donation help people?

Organ, eye and tissue transplants are lifechanging and lifesaving. Many would otherwise die without the help of a generous gift of organ donation. People on the organ transplant waiting list are dying of diseases, trauma and birth defects that have caused one or more of their organs to fail. Tissue transplants are life-enhancing, and may, in fact, be life-saving procedures correcting heart defects and helping accident victims recover from their traumatic injuries and regain their mobility. Corneal transplants help restore vision lost to disease or injury of the eye.

Organ, cornea and tissue recipients can live healthy active lives not thought possible prior to their transplant surgery. Most recipients make such an amazing recovery, you wouldn’t know they received a transplant unless they told you.
